Welcome, Incoming OkiJETs of 2025!

Welcome to all the incoming Okinawa JETs of 2025! We’re looking forward to meeting you and we hope you’re excited for your new life here in Okinawa. We realize that many of you may be feeling overwhelmed with preparations, so we encourage you to check out the different pages on this website to help you settle in and put your mind at ease. You can find general information about life in Okinawa and the islands themselves as well as information regarding working as an ALT.

We are very happy that many of you have already introduced yourselves in the LINE groups, Discord channel, and the Facebook page. If you have not had the chance to do so, please check out these groups as they are a great place to ask current JETs any questions you might have about both work and home life in Okinawa. While you`re there, keep an eye out for welcome events in August–they`re a great way to meet local JETs and learn about cool spots in your area!

We are very excited to meet you. See you soon!

The upcoming summer is a great time to not only relax but to reflect on this past year–the memories experienced, the lessons learned, and the friends made.

Speaking of friends, it`s time to say goodbye to some members of our JET community. To our departing JETs, we wish you success in your next endeavor. From your OkiJET family, a heartfelt sayonara until we meet again!

Happy May, OkiJETs!

Whether you traveled or just relaxed, we hope you enjoyed your Golden Week!

With the end of Golden Week starts the long stretch to summer break. In the meantime, here are some things of which you should be aware:

Rainy Season: Check out our page on Weather for more information on Okinawa`s seasons.

Summer Heat: Check out our page on Combating Summer to help weather the heat

Cicada Season: If you have never heard cicadas before, they can be quite deafening during the summer. Sound-cancelling headphones or a pair of earplugs can be very useful.

Typhoon Season: Check out our page on Typhoon Preparation for tips on how you can start preparing now.

Have a great first semester!

March Message

Happy March, OkiJETs!

Congratulations to everyone for making it to the end of the school/fiscal year!

While saying farewell to our 6th and 3rd year students can be tough, remember that they are on to better and brighter futures.

We encourage everyone to take some time to recharge over the break before the hustle and bustle of April begins. If you go on a trip, make sure to bring back some omiyage for your friends and coworkers. If you are planning on sticking around, deskwarming ideas include cleaning, studying Japanese, learning a new computer skill, thinking about new class activities, and getting to know your normally busy coworkers better.

Have a great spring break!
